PREVIEW: SPRING BOOK FAIR

Katie Botha • April 18, 2024

The Reading Celebration continues next week with our school’s Spring Scholastic Book Fair! Please reference this   shopping schedule  to see when your student will visit the fair.

Students will have the opportunity to shop during their allotted class time, Wednesday evening with a family member, and Friday morning. Purchases can be made with cash, check, credit card or eWallets.

Prize Wheel – Cash Only!

Students may spin the wheel for a chance to win fun novelty items or even a book/poster. The cost is $1 per spin.

Used Book Sale

We will be selling bags of used books for $5 per bag. These books are mostly nonfiction.

Parent Volunteers & Donations

If you’re interested in volunteering,  please sign up here . We are still collecting used books if you would like to donate. We are also collecting plastic and paper bags to use during the fair.

Wednesday is Family Shopping Night

Join us from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 24 for Family Shopping at the Book Fair. This is a great opportunity to stock up on some fun summer reading! Please enter/exit through the rear door nearest the library.

Classroom Wish Lists & New Teacher Welcome Books

These are titles that I’d like to add to our classroom libraries. Refreshing our classroom libraries regularly gives kids a reason to keep reading. Next year Saint Mary’s will be blessed with some new teachers. Help welcome them by purchasing a book or two!

Pre-Fair Pro-Tips

  • Set up a  Book Fair eWallet,  which gives students a secure, cash-free way to shop.
  • Take a look at these  Elementary  and  Middle School  flyers to see a sample of the great titles that will be available.
  • Please know that we are now required to charge tax on every purchase, so  please send your children with enough money to cover tax in addition to their total book cost.
  • Get a jump-start on shopping through our  Online Book Fair  starting April 22nd.

Finally, while some books have not yet been released and won’t be at the Fair, you can still purchase them as a pre-order during the Fair so that our school benefits from the purchase.

Tips & Strategies from Mrs. Slagle
By Katie Botha October 31, 2024
Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
