This month, members of Saint Mary's Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) Team spent an amazing day at Middle Road Elementary School's STEM Day where they presented their remote control lunar rover along with HERC project goals and objectives.
HERC team members presented to numerous 4th and 5th grade classes and got a real feel for "a day in the life" of a STEM teacher. They did a great job and were really tired by the end of the day! We should all be very proud of them and the way they handled this aspect of their HERC mission.
Several teachers at our host elementary school remarked that they thought SMCS HERC team members were high school students given the manner in which they carried themselves and how well they presented and interacted with the younger students. The principal and everyone involved with STEM Day were so grateful for our visit and want us to return again in the future!
On March 27th the team participated in an Operational Readiness Review (ORR) presentation in front of the NASA HERC team. This consisted of a thirty minute presentation and a fifteen minute Q&A session. The team's next stop will be for the three-day HERC Competition at NASA's U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, near the agency’s Marshall Space Flight Center where St. Mary's students will compete against teams from all over the world!
