Katie Botha • March 14, 2023

Please  register online  by Friday, March 24.

Dr. Kris Day and Dr. Jessica Zdinak are often seen at Saint Mary’s sharing their Monarch love in the form of volunteering at events and in their respective students’ classrooms. This month, we’re grateful that they have teamed up with our School Counselor, Ms. Anna Borrelli and Sergeant Renee Walcott from the University of Richmond Police Department to address two important topics: Adolescent Mental Health & Self-Defense for Kids.

Dr. Day is the Assistant Director of Clinical Services for the Counseling Center at UR. She also has a private practice and is a consultant on the Henrico County Hostage Negotiations team.

Dr. Zdinak is a research psychologist who specializes in behavior change, and applying psychological phenomenon and principles to improving the lives of others.

Join them Thursday, March 30th at 6pm to learn how you can better support your child’s mental and emotional wellbeing. While parents learn, students in grades 4-8 can take part in a self-defense workshop led by Sergeant Walcott.

Both events are FREE; however, a suggested donation of $10 to benefit Special Olympics Virginia will be collected at the door.

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
