Guide for Parents: Understanding Performance Series Test Scores

Katie Botha • October 30, 2020

In September, students in grades 2-8 were assessed using the Performance Series Test. These test score reports will be sent home on Friday, October 30th. Students in grades 2-5 will receive their scores in their Friday folder while middle schoolers (grades 6-8) will be given their scores in a sealed envelope.

Sometimes interpreting scores can be difficult. To assist in interpreting the scores, we are providing  this letter   distributed by the Office of Catholic Schools. This document outlines the Scantron Performance Series Reading and Mathematics score report. The intent is to provide support in better understanding how the Performance Series Test delivers the assessments to meet students’ individual goals.

Additionally, the score report provides assistance on how to interpret scores and to better understand your child’s current areas of strength and areas for further growth. Teachers use these scores to direct individualized  instruction  in their classrooms with groups of students demonstrating the same areas of need.

We look forward to assessing student growth again upon returning from the Christmas Holiday break.

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
