SPORTS REPORT: FALL WRAP-UP

Boys’ Middle School Soccer

Our G5-8 team had a fantastic season and were the top of 3 teams in our Catholic schools division. They lost a close one, 2-1, in the championship game.

Elementary School Co-ed Soccer

This was the first time offering this sport for 1st/2nd grade and 3rd/4th grade. We had a total of nearly 70 students participate! We played against teams from St. Edward-Epiphany, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Joseph’s, and St. Benedict.

Girls’ Middle School Volleyball

Our 6th/7th grade players were almost all new to the sport but still won 2 matches including their last match of the season while our 8th grade team had the best record in the league! They worked really hard and I expect many of them to continue to play in high school.

Cross Country

Our largest team ever with 30 runners! We finished 2nd in both boys’ and girls’ divisions for the Catholic schools championship. One our stand-out runners, Virginia H., was the champion of that meet and finished second at the middle school championship at Collegiate featuring many schools from across the Richmond area. Another Mighty Monarch runner, Lee Lee H., was the runner up in the Catholic schools championship.

Flag Football

Our 5th/6th grade team were the number 1 team for the regular season and won the championship with convincing wins in the tournament. Our 7th/8th grade team wasn’t the highest seed entering the playoffs, but steamrolled their way to a championship win!

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
