BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

Our next meeting will be after school next Thursday, December 7 from 2:45-3:30. Pick up will be in the back of the school at the library door. There is still time to sign up if your student in grades 3-5 or 6-8 is interested in joining a “Family Feud-style” team, contact Mrs. Valdepenas ASAP. We could really use a few more Middle School participants! All teams will be required to read a total of 28 books between now and March.

School Wide Reading Incentive Program

This year, students may participate in a school-wide reading incentive program! The goal is to instill a love of reading, and expose students to new genres. Each section of the school will participate in a different challenge as outlined below. Middle School Program details will be shared soon!

3rd-5th Reading Passport
Our Students in grades 3-5 received a genre passport, which will stay in the library. As they travel through the genre world, students can fill in their passports and earn prizes.

SEEKING HOLIDAY HARDBACK BOOK DONATIONS

Yes, the library can accept gently used books in accordance with our selection policy.

We are currently seeking some gently used holiday hardback and hardback graphic novels.

Donated paperback books will be used as reading prizes, and/or sold at the Book Fair.

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
