CELEBRATING NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH AT SAINT MARY’S

Katie Botha • September 19, 2023

From September 15 through October 15, Saint Mary’s Catholic School will join the Richmond Diocese in celebrating this special month dedicated to recognizing the impact of Hispanic Americans on our country and our faith community.

Throughout the month-long celebration, the Richmond Diocese will feature a saint with a particular devotion within the Hispanic Catholic community each week on Instagram.

In addition to amplifying the weekly saint campaign on social media, Saint Mary’s will make regular PA announcements for students and will host two special community events over the course of the month. These events will be supported by our Segura Coordinator, Angela Villa, with assistance from students, faculty, staff and community volunteers.

The first event will be a bilingual mass celebrated on Wednesday, October 4th at 9am, that will include specially selected songs, bilingual readings and reflections from multilingual members of our school and parish.

The second event is the Night of Nations on Saturday, October 14th at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall/gymnasium. Sign up now  to be a part of this beloved celebration of Monarch pride and multicultural heritage including food, music and dance from around the globe!

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
