SMCS End Of Year Awards May 28, 2020

Lisa Flint • May 29, 2020

Hello Saint Mary’s families,

Every year we take time to recognize our students (grades 1-8) for the outstanding work they have done over the course of the school year. This year we will do the same, in a slightly different format. Our 2019/20 End of Year Awards ceremony has been recorded and prepared for all to see.  Our teachers are so proud of each student for adjusting to a very different learning format and wished to give everyone recognition. So kudos to every student in grades junior kindergarten through eighth grade. Congratulations on a job well done.

We look forward to recognizing our eighth graders at our Eighth Grade Closing Mass next Monday at 3:00. More details are forthcoming and will be sent to parents of eighth graders.

One item of note, you will see in the video, there is an additional member of our team who will be leaving the school at the end of the school year. Heather Heishman has given more than 14 years of time and service to Saint Mary’s Catholic School. Her talents are many and she has been behind so much of the great things that happen here at the school. While the school will miss her many contributions she, will be just a few steps away as she takes on a new role at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Congratulations Heather and we will see you around the way!!

As for now, please gather the family together and enjoy the   End of Year Awards and Recognitions .

Best regards,

Brandon

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
