FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION

Katie Botha • September 30, 2022

Requirements

Baptized children in second grade and above are invited to prepare for and celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation, followed by First Eucharist. Our Bishop requires children preparing for sacraments to participate in both systematic faith formation (Catholic school religion class)  and   specific sacrament preparation provided by the parish.

Action Item

If you haven’t already done so, please register online for this preparation  here. NOTE: When prompted, please select “Attends Catholic School” in the Elementary Program choice, then answer “YES” for sacrament prep.

Save the Dates

Parent Orientation for First Eucharist and Reconciliation is offered on two dates (choose one):

  • Monday, December 5 th  at 7pm in the Bishop Sullivan Room
  • Sunday, December 11 th  at 12:30 in the Day Chapel

Books, materials, and expectations will be shared during that time for no more than an hour. Children are not expected to attend. You need only attend one orientation.

A series of five family Saturday workshops are held from January through April at two timeframes. You and your child are expected to attend all five. Dates for the workshops and reconciliation and first communion are listed on the  parish website.

Questions?

Contact Laura Stapleton (Elementary Coordinator) , especially if your family is registered at another parish and plan to prepare for and receive sacraments at St. Mary’s.

Tips & Strategies from Mrs. Slagle

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
