Bishop appoints Dr. Michael Riley as new leader of Schools

Dear Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, Principals, Campus Ministers, and Business Managers of the Diocese,

I am pleased to share with you the appointment of Dr. Michael Riley to Superintendent of Schools for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. His appointment comes after an extensive national search to replace the current Interim Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jennifer Bigelow, who will end her position on June 30, 2024.

Dr. Riley currently serves as Associate Superintendent of School Operations for the diocese, a role he has held since 2022. He previously served as Principal for Charlottesville Catholic School from 2012-2022. Mike brings 25 years of educational leadership experience in Catholic schools, to include both administrative and teaching roles. He graduated from Barton College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and from The College of William and Mary with both a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education in Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership. Dr. Riley will begin his new role on July 1, 2024.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Riley on his new role with the diocese.

Sincerely in Our Lord,

Very Reverend Michael G. Boehling, V.G.

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
