BOYS & GIRLS SCOUTING INFO

Katie Botha • September 3, 2021

For those students in grades K, 1, 2 or 4 interested in joining Girl Scouts, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, October 13 at 6:00pm in the lower commons of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

There will be fun activities for the girls while parents discuss plans for the upcoming year. We will be joined by Theresa Henderson, Community Engagement Manager for the local Girl Scout Council.

So that we may order the right amount of pizza, please RSVP and send any questions you might have to David Kupstas via email at  dkupstas2@hotmail.com. David and his wife are longtime leaders of Girl Scout Troop 642 since their daughter (SMCS ’17) was in Kindergarten here at Saint Mary’s Catholic School.

Similarly, girls in grades 6-8 are also invited to contact Tricia Blair via email to learn about activities with Girl Scout Cadette Troop 5163 .

Parents from Cub Scout Pack 737 will distribute flyers during ECDC and Elementary School Morning Carpool next Wednesday, weather permitting. All interested families are invited to join the Pack for their in-person information session to be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic School on September 13. Details are provided below. Additional questions may be shared with Chris Carter via email.

Faithful Citizenship Resources In anticipation of Election Day on November 5, the Virginia Catholic Conference has prepared voter education resources to help Catholics confidently vote with an informed conscience. Those resources can be found on the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's website . School Day Reminders This year, Election Day is a regular school day with a regular bell schedule at Saint Mary's Catholic School. In prior years, it has coincided with Parent-Teacher Conferences resulting in a day-off for students; however, that is not the case this school year. Many of our students across all grade levels are aware of the importance of Election Day. We anticipate the days leading up to Election Day and those following it will provide topics of conversation that students may choose to engage in both inside and outside the classroom. If necessary, our teachers may offer age-appropriate explanations of the day's events and results. As family members, we encourage you to guide your children as they navigate their thoughts and feelings over the coming weeks and months.
