Saint Mary’s welcomes Mrs. Sheila Olesen to coordinate and teach the accelerated and enrichment classes in grades 3 – 5. Mrs. Olesen joins us with experience rich in teaching math, science and language arts, as well as experience in teaching in Catholic schools. Her interest in teaching accelerated and enriched classes was highlighted while interviewing with the search committee, and her enthusiasm for teaching at Saint Mary’s was described as “infectious.”
Mrs. Olesen has been busy with teaching the already established grades 4 and 5 accelerated math classes. Next on her list of objectives was to establish a process and criteria for identifying students for the grade 3 accelerated math class. Future plans call for designing a similar process to identify students in grades 3 to 5 for the enriched language arts classes. Mrs. Olesen will be working with classroom teachers, parents and students to fully implement classes in accelerated math and enriched language arts for grades 3 to 5. In addition to her teaching, Mrs. Olesen will serve as a resource to teachers and parents for differentiated instructional strategies.
