Dear Saint Mary’s Families,
Last night I attended the first annual Excellence in Catholic Education Banquet at which all of the school nominees from across the Diocese were recognized. Mr. Schaefer was the school nominee from Saint Mary’s. I am very excited to share with you that Mr. Schaefer is the first ever winner of the Excellence in Catholic Education Award for the Central Region!
This weekend we have both our choir and our band performing at Kings Dominion tomorrow. I wish all of our students best of luck with their performances.
The Kings Dominion performance is going to be a bittersweet one for Mrs. Taylor because she has accepted the Upper School Choral Director position at the Steward School next year. It was a difficult decision for her to make, but she could not pass up an opportunity to work with high school students again.
Ms. Chadwell has also let me know that she will not be returning next year. As many of you know, her position is only a part-time position at Saint Mary’s and she is looking for a full-time position for the 2018-2019 school year. The transition in middle school social studies will be minimal, as Mrs. Tuskey will be returning to the classroom full-time next year.
I heard from many of you that there was an issue with the weather on our website yesterday. This information comes from NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration), which is the gold standard for weather forecasting. Because this is government provided information, I was left without recourse in regard to determining the source of the problem. If this happens in the future, please click the weather and it will give you a more detailed description. Yesterday the narrative stated that the highs would be in the 80s. Technology is wonderful, but from time to time doesn’t work perfectly. Thank you for your understanding.
We need your help! The teachers are working hard to pack up their rooms in preparation for the renovation this summer. We will be here all day on June 2nd and 3rd moving all of their items and this is where we need your help. Please click on this link to sign up and help. Refreshments and food will be provided. Come and help us, meet new people and have fun while helping us get ready for the renovation. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Heather at hheishman@saintmary.org, who is coordinating the move.
I am also in need of a parent or two who is willing to come pick up old textbooks and taking them to the recycling center during the last week of school. This can be done either during the school day or after hours. All textbooks will be located in one central area for ease of loading. If you can help in this way, please email me at jellis@saintmary.org.
Joyfully,
Jenni Ellis
Principal

8th Grade Students Present “Capernaum”: Our 8th grade students are a part of an exciting new tradition that we started working on in January as a part of the Religious Arts and IB progamme. During the day on Monday, May 21st the 8th graders will be opening the gates to “Capernaum” for the fifth, sixth, and seventh grades. They will travel back to the time of Jesus and visit a town that He visited with our own musical creations, skits, food, coin rubbings, and skits. It just might be the Greatest Show on Earth. The presentation for 8th grade families will be the evening of May 21st at 4:45.
