Dear Saint Mary’s Families,

A message from Father Renninger;

On Wednesday morning, approximately 55 parents participated in the “dialogue with the pastor” in the Daily Mass chapel. I am grateful to all who were able to be there on Wednesday morning.

We had to postpone the dialogue session which was scheduled for this last Monday due to the tornadoes in the area. We are currently working to reschedule that session. I departed for a pilgrimage to Israel on the evening of September 19, and will return on the 29th. Upon my return we will be able to provide more information about that rescheduled session.

Working with leaders from the Office of Catholic Schools, I have been actively engaged in a process to identify an interim principal for Saint Mary’s. Good progress has been made, and I have confidence that we will be able to make an announcement concerning the interim principal very shortly after I return from the Holy Land.

Mrs. Robin Rooks has generously agreed to continue to serve as Teacher In Charge until I return. I am grateful for her faithful service to our community. Robin has been a member of our school faculty for 21 years. She taught French to students of all age levels, and then served as our International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Coordinator for 10 years. Last year, she worked with members of our faculty to train staff members as IB leaders. She previously served as Teacher In Charge at Saint Mary’s when Dr. Dertinger resigned. I know that you will join me in thanking Mrs. Rooks for her outstanding service and leadership in our school.

As I travel throughout the Holy Land, please know that I will be praying for you and your family.

Peace,

Fr. Michael Renninger

A message from Robin Rooks;

NEW – Boy Scouts Grades Kindergarten – 5th:   Mr. Lombardi is the Cubmaster for Pack 737.  This is his seventh year as a volunteer with the Cub Scouts.  I really love the scouting program, Pack 737 and Saint Mary’s Catholic school.  Your son will be able to move at his own pace and will become friends with boys his own age (his Den) and with boys in all grades of elementary school (our Pack).  Your son is able to still participate in all the sporting programs and extracurricular activities he chooses, while still being a scout…you attend the events that you are able, and since the program is year round there is always something that is available.  We typically meet on Mondays, two or three times a month, and have one weekend activity a month.  The aims of scouting are to promote character, citizenship, fitness and faith in the boy through adventure and being outdoors.  Feel free to reach out to me at 804-263-4995 or email me at alanlombardi@comcast.net with any questions.

Save the Date High School Night: We would like to invite our middle school students and their parents to our annual High School Information Fair to be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:30-8pm in the Upper Commons of our Church.  Print the “Save the Date” flyer here.  Look for the list of attending high schools coming soon.

Morning Carpool Additional Help Needed:  We are in need of additional morning carpool help.  If you are interested in being a carpool volunteer, please look at the schedule here and email Andy Branch at abranch72@gmail.com to sign up to help.  Giving a half hour of your time once a week is a great way to help!

Visiting Our Campus:  Our concern is the safety of the students.  Because of this, we ask that anyone visiting campus at any time during the day park in the parking lot near the statue of St. Joseph.  This parking lot has a speed bump at each entrance and is located on the side of the church.  You can then follow the sidewalk around ECDC and up to the middle school doors.

No cars should be driving behind the school during the school day.  Please remember that we have students playing on the blacktop during the day during their recess.  Cars should enter and leave the campus through the Marywood Lane entrance or through the front entrance closest to Pinchbeck.  Again, this is for the safety of your children.

5th Annual Go Forth 5k:  The Go Forth 5k is TOMORROW at Deep Run Park! Join us! You can still sign up online: https://stmaryva.ejoinme.org/goforth5k; walk-up registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The kids’ run starts at 8 a.m. ($15) and the 5k ($25) starts at 8:30 a.m. Eighth grader Logan Grasser will be singing the National Anthem, and we’ll say a prayer, right before the kids’ run. The Go Forth 5k got its name from a former Mass dismissal, which says: Go forth to love and serve the Lord. That’s the message behind tomorrow’s event. Come have some fun with your family and community together in this beautiful world! Jog strollers welcome (just start behind the runners, please). Many thanks to our wonderful sponsors: Short Pump Orthodontics; Shana Branch, Realtor; Teeth by Talton; Dyer Immigration Law Group; Goldfish Swim School; RedRidge Pet Market; James River Irrigation; LeClaireRyan; Knights of Columbus The Abbate Agency; Diamond Springs Water; Fleet Feet Sports; Endorphin Fitness; Riverside Outfitters; TrueTimber Arborists; Bushin Martial Arts Academy; and Wash Your Way RVA.
