Saint Mary’s will again be offering a Cross Country running program that will begin in late August and run through early October. The program is open to both girls and boys in 5th-8th grades. Lindsay Doyle will be the head coach, after 2 years as assistant coach for both the Cross Country and Track Teams. Don Jean, who has been the head coach of both teams for the past 3 years, has graciously agreed to serve as an assistant coach even though his youngest son, Nick, is moving on to Trinity Episcopal School.

Although there will not be formal tryouts, participating students need to be able to comfortably run at least 1 mile without stopping at the beginning of the season. They will work to increase their endurance and distance throughout the season. Practices will be held Monday-Thursday from 3:00pm to approximately 4:00pm. This year, some practices will be held at Deep Run Park, which is located about 2 miles from Saint Mary’s. All other practices will be held at Saint Mary’s, and the team will meet rain or shine.

In order to participate, all students and their parent/guardian will need to sign a participation agreement that outlines expectations and guidelines for the team. This participation agreement will be available on the school website in August. Parents/guardians are also asked to attend a team meeting at the beginning of the season to review expectations and receive further information.
