Saint Mary’s participates in the Diocesan standardized testing program. As of the 2014-2015 school year, the Terra Nova tests have been replaced with Scantron Performance Based testing in Language Arts and Mathematics. The tests are administered three times a year in grades 2 to 8 to measure growth as well as identify any content ‘gap’ for individual students. Tests are taken on a computer, provide immediate feedback to the teacher, and quickly “know” the student’s level of performance, maximizing the efficiency of the testing. Untimed, the test typically take 45 minutes to an hour and a half each. Homeroom teachers schedule the administration of the tests during “testing windows” of 10 – 15 days, which can be found on the school calendar. No preparation is needed to take the tests as overall performance is being accessed.
For additional information on the tests, please see A Parent’s Guide to Performance Series.
