Saint Mary’s middle school students are assessed with both the traditional grading / reporting system designed by the Diocese of Richmond as well as the IB system of criterion referenced grading. IB grades are based on rubrics that define levels of achievement and mastery, rather than percentages of material learned. The systems are somewhat mutually exclusive – there is generally no “conversion” of scores. For this reason, the student’s report cards reflect both the traditional grading scheme for 4 quarters as well as semester IB grades.
In order to better interpret and understand the semester IB grades, please see the IB MYP General Grade Descriptors .
