Dear SMCS Family,
Last evening, I retrieved a candle for my 13 year old daughter to place in her bedroom window. This single candle, along with others in our neighborhood, represented the light Lucia Bremer shone in the world. While my daughter did not know Lucia, fulfilling the family’s request for prayer and illuminating a candle allowed my daughter to express her love and support in a very confusing time.
Lucia, a student at Quioccasin Middle School, was shot and killed on Friday evening near Godwin High School. She leaves behind, her parents and two brothers. Lucia, and her brothers, attended preschool at Saint Mary’s Catholic School and she received her First Holy Communion in our parish.
As a school community we support and pray for the Bremer Family and for the family of the boy who allegedly shot her, as their life has also been forever changed. Our middle schoolers will participate in the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary in Religion class this week.
