1st grade students began taking Accelerated Reader tests in January.  They were introduced to the program after listening to the story, Stella, Queen of the Snow.  They listened to the story, learned how this computerized program works, and worked with their aides on taking the AR comprehension tests.  Each week, some students in each 1st grade class have time to take AR tests.  We are encouraging children to check out their own AR books to read at home and then come into the library and take the AR tests.  It is our goal for students to become independent AR test takers by the end of 1st grade.  This month, in addition to Stella, Queen of the Snow, we have read Martin’s Big Words and Katy and the Big Snow.  Accelerated Reader is a computerized comprehension program that evaluates reading comprehension on selected books.  Keep reading!
