Saint Mary’s Catholic School Spotlight: This Spring , 10 Saint Mary’s eighth-grade accelerated Math students, under the guidance of teacher Nadine Schiavo, competed against students from 24 schools across the U.S. and Canada in a Math contest. Sponsored by the Math League, the contest was a 30-question multiple choice test made up entirely of word problems up to and including Algebra 1. When Ms. Schiavo first encountered these students in sixth grade, she said they were afraid of word problems. They aren’t afraid anymore! After studying Math with Ms. Schiavo from sixth through eighth grade, the Saint Mary’s student team performed in the top 15% of all the student teams who competed in the contest.
School Office: Our school office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 3:30PM, if you need entry into the school after 3:30PM please use the After School Care entrance on the Parish Hall side of the building.
Mass Collection: the money collected during School Mass will be donated to “Noah’s Children”. Noah’s Children is Central Virginia’s first and only home-based pediatric palliative car and hospice program. About 45,000 children of Central VA’s 300,000 have special health care needs. About 7 percent (3,000 to 3,500) of these children are living with a life threatening illness or condition and need palliative care. About 10 percent (300 to 350) of those children die each year and are in need of hospice care. Click Here to learn more about how Noah’s Children organization impacts the lives of children.
